In addition to novels, Park has written books for younger readers. Her picture
book Bee-bim Bop! was inspired by an actual Korean dish called bibimbap. The
meal consists of rice, marinated beef, and all kinds of small side dishes such as
spinach, carrots, sprouts, and eggs. You put the rice in the middle of a deep bowl,
then you take what you want from the serving platter and you mix it. Bee-bim is a
nonsense sound that means "all mixed up." Bop means rice. So it's mixed-up rice.
